Double Glazed Conservatory

As it grows colder outside, there’s nothing better than returning to a warm, cosy home.

But if you’re finding your house isn’t as snug as you’d like it to be, there are ways you can turn up the heat and lower your energy bills. And the most efficient of these is to replace draughty windows and doors.

Improve heat efficiency with double glazed windows and doors

Heat gain and heat loss through windows are responsible for 25 to 30% of residential heating and cooling energy use. Inadequate doors can also add to this problem, causing draughts by letting cold air in and allowing warm air to escape.

The solution is energy efficient double glazing. Banish draughts and chilly rooms by replacing your current windows and doors with double-glazing. By keeping heat in and cold air out, you can dramatically reduce your energy bills whilst making your home warmer.

How energy-efficient glass is rated

Energy-efficient glazing is rated by its ability to reduce the amount of heat that passes through a window. This takes into account the capacity of sunlight and air to move through the glass unit.

In between the glass panes of a sealed unit, an air gap limits the amount of cold air able to enter your home. The space between the glass panes is filled with air or gas to reduce heat loss through the unit. A gas like argon has low conductivity, making the window even more efficient at keeping heat inside your home.

Windows with an energy rating will have their u-value displayed on their energy label, and you should take this into consideration when choosing new windows or doors. Windows that let out more heat have higher u-values than ones that retain heat, which have lower values.

Additional benefits of energy-efficient glazing

As well as making your house much warmer, there are plenty of other ways you will benefit by installing double glazing.

• By improving the energy efficiency of your home, you’ll reduce your energy bills and cut your carbon footprint.

• You can also reduce or stop condensation from forming on windows and doors, making your home less damp.

• And you have the added advantage of blocking out external noise, so when you close your doors and windows, you can relax in peace and tranquillity.

Enjoy a warm conservatory with a solid roof

When it comes to improving the heat efficiency of your home, don’t forget about the conservatory. It doesn’t have to be a room that’s too hot to use in summer and too cool in winter.

Whether you’re planning to build a new conservatory or replace the roof of your existing one, a solid roof will help to maintain an even temperature all-year-round. Not only will a solid roof turn your conservatory into a more comfortable, functional room, it’s also more hardwearing and long-lasting than a polycarbonate alternative.

Another advantage of a solid roof is that it solves the issue of glare, so you can easily watch the TV or use a computer in the conservatory. This diffusion of direct sunlight also protects the interior of the room, preventing fading of your furnishings and flooring.
